Assam Govt To Provide Rs 2.5 Lakh Each To 8,000 Namghars: The Assam government has announced to provide Rs. 2.5 lakh each to 8,000 Namghars in the state for improving their infrastructure.

The financial assistance will be provided under the ‘Asom Darshan’ scheme by October 15 this year.
This was announced by Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press conference on Saturday.
Sarma said that only the Namghars will be covered under this scheme. Temples, mosques and churches will not get this financial assistance.“We have directed the respective deputy commissioners of all the districts to select 55 beneficiary Namghars from each assembly constituencies. Each Namghar will receive financial assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh,” the minister said.
Priority will be given to the oldest Namghars and the Namghars which are located in the villages that are economically weaker.
The minister also announced the approval of Rs 10 lakh each for 377 historical religious institutions across the state.
Namghars, as conceived by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, symbolise the collective identity and culture of the people of Assam.
