Assam: Schools that waive 50% fee for April, do not allow any fee hike, says Government: The Assam government has asked all private schools to provide 50% fee waivers and increase fees for the month of April in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis or not to reduce the salaries of their staff. Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the decision was made after consultation with a number of academics and several schools, keeping in view the financial pressures caused by the fear and lockdown of the COVID-19 crisis.

“Education Dept has directed all pvt schools to waive 50% of their one month school fees for April to give relief to parents. It is also directed that during pandemic there will be no increase in fee and no curtailment of salary of teaching & non teaching staff of pvt schools,” tweeted Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Also, no school will be allowed to raise their fees without the government’s consent, Sarma informed, adding that schools that violate the order will be closed under the Disaster Management Act.
He added that if the lockout continued till May 30, there would be a loss of 52 days in the academic year, excluding holidays. This can be made possible by working in all Saturday schools, reducing the number of declared holidays and reducing summer vacations. Sarma added that they could also be open on Sundays if needed.
उन्होंने कहा कि अगर 30 मई तक तालाबंदी जारी रही, तो छुट्टियों को छोड़कर, शैक्षणिक वर्ष में 52 दिनों का नुकसान होगा। यह सभी शनिवार के स्कूलों में काम करके, घोषित छुट्टियों की संख्या को कम करके और गर्मियों की छुट्टियों को कम करके संभव बनाया जा सकता है। सरमा ने कहा कि जरूरत पड़ने पर वे रविवार को भी खुले रह सकते हैं।
