Assam: Schools that waive 50% fee for April, do not allow any fee hike, says Government: The Assam government has asked all private schools to provide 50% fee waivers and increase fees for the month of April in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis or not to reduce the salaries of their staff. Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the decision was made after consultation with a number of academics and several schools, keeping in view the financial pressures caused by the fear and lockdown of the COVID-19 crisis.

He added that if the lockout continued till May 30, there would be a loss of 52 days in the academic year, excluding holidays. This can be made possible by working in all Saturday schools, reducing the number of declared holidays and reducing summer vacations. Sarma added that they could also be open on Sundays if needed.
