Department of School Education, Assam Releases Special TET for Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and Hmar Mediums | Application Starts January 7, 2026
Assam TET 2026: The Government of Assam, Department of School Education, has officially released the notification for the Special Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026. This examination is a mandatory gateway for candidates aspiring to become teachers in Lower Primary (LP) and Upper Primary (UP) schools across the state.
This year, the focus is on a Special TET designed specifically to address the shortage of Language-I teachers in Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and Hmar medium elementary schools. Organized by the State Level Empowered Committee (TET) and SEBA, this exam adheres strictly to NCTE guidelines.

Eligibility Criteria of Assam TET
Residentship: Candidate must be a permanent resident of the State of Assam.
Educational Qualification: Candidate must have minimum academic and professional qualification as per NCTE norms as follows:
Lower Primary TET (Classes I to V)
# Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
OR
# Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B. El.Ed.)
OR
# Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
OR
# Graduation and two year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
Upper Primary TET (Classes VI to VIII)
# Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
OR
# At least 50% marks in Graduation and B. Ed.
OR
# At least 55% marks in Post Graduation or equivalent grade and three year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. OR
# Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B. El. Ed).
OR
# Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.A./B. Sc. Ed. Or
B.A. Ed/B. Sc. Ed. OR
# Graduation with at least 50% marks and 1-year B. Ed.(Special Education)
Note: Minimum percentage of marks in graduation shall not be applicable to those incumbents who had already taken admission to the Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Elementary Education or equivalent course prior to the 29 July, 2011.
Relaxation: Relaxation up to 5% in the academic marks in HSSLC or Graduation shall be applicable for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/MOBC/PWD(PH) to appear in Special Assam TET- 2026 (The degree of handicap in case of PH candidates should be minimum 40% and to be certified by the competent authority) both for Paper-I (LP Level) and Paper-II (UP Level).
Language Requirement
Since this is a Special TET, candidates must be proficient in one of the following languages as Language-I:
- Bodo
- Garo
- Manipuri
- Hmar
Assam TET 2026 Exam Pattern
The exam will be conducted in Offline Mode (OMR Based). The question papers will be available in Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, and English.

- Duration: 150 Minutes (2.5 Hours) per paper.
- Negative Marking: NO negative marking.

Qualifying Marks & Certificate Validity
To qualify the Assam TET 2026, candidates must score minimum passing marks.
- General Category: 60% (90 Marks out of 150).
- Reserved Category (SC/ST/OBC/MOBC/PWD): 55% (83 Marks out of 150).
Certificate Validity: The Assam TET Certificate is valid for a Lifetime. Once qualified, candidates do not need to re-appear unless they wish to improve their scores.
Application Fee
Candidates must pay the examination fee online via Debit Card, Credit Card, or Net Banking. Fees are non-refundable.
