Central TET 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Qualifications for Primary and Elementary Teachers

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has set certain eligibility criteria for candidates who wish to appear for the Common Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) July 2023 Examination. The eligibility criteria are divided into two categories, i.e., Paper 1 for Primary Teachers (Class 1st to 5th) and Paper 2 for Elementary Teachers (Class 6th to 8th).

Qualifications for Primary Teachers (Paper 1)

To become a primary teacher, candidates must have any one of the following qualifications:

  • Passed Class 12th with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Passed Class 12th with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education as per NCTE 2002 norms.
  • Passed Class 12th with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
  • Passed Class 12th with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a two-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
  • Passed or appearing in the final year of a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education after completing an undergraduate degree.

Qualifications for Elementary Teachers (Paper 2)

To become an elementary teacher, candidates must have any one of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and passed or appearing in the final year of a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a one-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed).
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a one-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) as per NCTE norms.
  • Passed Class 12th with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a four-year Bachelor in Elementary Education.
  • Passed Class 12th with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a four-year B.A.Ed or B.Sc.Ed.
  • Undergraduate degree with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a one-year B.Ed/ (B.Ed Special Education).
