Terms of Service: Short Service Commission (SSC)
It is crucial to understand the nature of your employment. This recruitment is for a Short Service Commission (SSC), not a Permanent Commission (PC) at the entry level.
Initial TenureYou will be commissioned for an initial period of 5 years.
First ExtensionSubject to performance and willingness, service can be extended for another 5 years.
Final ExtensionA final term of 4 years can be granted after the first extension.
Total Max TenureThe total SSC tenure is a maximum of 14 years (5 + 5 + 4).
🛡️ Permanent Commission (PC):
Depending on organizational requirements, vacancies, and your professional track record, SSC officers are frequently offered Permanent Commission during their service. This allows them to serve until retirement age and reach high ranks such as Colonel, Brigadier, or Major General.
How to Prepare for SSB: Veterinary Graduates
Veterinary graduates often face unique challenges at the SSB. While your academic foundation is strong, the SSB tests personality, leadership, and fitness. Here is your tailored preparation strategy:
📰 Brush up on Current Affairs Start reading a reputed national newspaper daily (The Hindu or Indian Express). Be aware of international geopolitical events, Indian defense procurements, and national socio-economic policies. You must be able to hold a mature conversation during Group Discussions.
🏃 Physical Fitness The GTO tasks require stamina. Start a daily routine of running at least 3-5 kilometers, doing push-ups, chin-ups, and core exercises. A fit body reflects a disciplined mind and prepares you for the rigorous military training at RVC Centre.
🧘 Self-Introspection The SSB is a psychological test. Know yourself deeply. Why do you want to leave a private clinic for the Army? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Be ruthlessly honest with yourself; the Interviewing Officer will spot any inconsistencies.
🧠 Practice Psychological Tests Download sample TAT, WAT, and SRT sets online. Practice writing stories within strict time limits. Ensure your stories are positive, constructive, and show a central character solving a problem through effective action rather than just luck.
🐾 Veterinary Knowledge Recap While the SSB is not a technical exam, the Interviewing Officer will test your basic professional competence. Be ready to answer questions about zoonoses, basic canine and equine anatomy, animal nutrition, and your contribution to public health as a military vet.
*Success in SSB comes from the right balance of professional knowledge and officer-like qualities (OLQs).
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

To conclude this mega-guide, we have compiled the most frequently asked questions regarding the RVC 95th SSC Course 2026.

Q1: Can final-year BVSc students apply for the Indian Army RVC 2026? Generally, no. Because a valid VCI or State Veterinary Council registration number is mandatory to fill out the online application, candidates must have completed their degree and internship to possess this registration.
Q2: Is there any physical running test before the SSB? No. There is no physical efficiency test (like a 1.6 km run) prior to the SSB. However, you need decent physical fitness to clear the GTO tasks during the 5-day SSB interview.
Q3: Can female candidates apply, and what are their career prospects? Absolutely. 3 out of the 20 vacancies are strictly reserved for female candidates. Women officers have identical pay, perks, and career progression in the RVC.
Q4: I wear spectacles. Am I eligible for the Medical Test? Yes. Wearing spectacles does not automatically disqualify you. The Army allows certain limits of Myopia and Hypermetropia. However, color blindness is strict grounds for rejection.
Q5: Will I have to fight in wars as a Veterinary Officer? You are commissioned as a combatant officer. While your primary role is medical management of animals, you will undergo military training and are expected to perform military duties in times of conflict.
Q6: Are tattoos allowed in the Indian Army? The policy is very strict. Permanent tattoos are only permitted on the inner face of the forearms and the back of the hand. Tattoos on any other part are prohibited.
Q7: Do I have to pay an application fee? No. Applications for Officer entries in the Indian Army are completely free of cost for all categories.
Q8: What if I do not receive an OTP during registration? Try registering during off-peak hours. Ensure your mobile network is strong and your email storage is not full. Check your spam folder as well.
