Eligibility Criteria for NTA UGC NET Exam

Age Criteria:

Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Applicants must not exceed 30 years of age as of 01.06.2024. Candidates belonging to OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, and Third gender categories, as well as women applicants, are eligible for a relaxation of up to 5 years.

Assistant Professor: No upper age limit is specified for applying for UGC-NET for the Assistant Professor position.

Ph.D. Admission: There is no upper age limit for applying for UGC-NET for admission to Ph.D. programs.

Educational Qualifications:

(a) General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates should have secured a minimum of 55% marks in their Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC. Candidates from OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, and Third gender categories are eligible with a minimum of 50% marks in their Master’s degree or equivalent examination.

(b) Candidates currently pursuing or awaiting the results of their qualifying Master’s degree examination may also apply.

(c) Candidates with a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree should have a minimum aggregate of 75% marks or equivalent grade.

(d) Candidates pursuing a Four Year/8 Semester Bachelor’s Degree Program in their final semester/year are eligible to apply provisionally. However, they must fulfill the requirements specified in the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022, within two years (if qualified for JRF) or within one year (if qualified for Ph.D. admission) from the date of declaration of the NET result.

(e) Candidates with a Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree Program are permitted to appear in a subject of their choice for Ph.D. pursuit, irrespective of their undergraduate discipline.

Application Fee for NTA UGC NET

The application fees are categorized as follows:

  • General: Rs. 1150/-
  • EWS/OBC-NCL: Rs. 600/-
  • SC/ST/PWD/Third Gender: Rs. 325/-
