Selection Process of SBI Recruitment

The selection process for the recruitment of Probationary Officers in the State Bank of India is a multi-stage evaluation designed to identify the most qualified candidates. It consists of three main phases:

Preliminary Examination

The preliminary examination is the first stage of the selection process and is conducted online. It consists of objective tests with a total of 100 marks. The duration of this test is 1 hour, during which candidates must answer questions from three different topics:

  • English Language: 30 questions in 20 minutes
  • Quantitative Aptitude: 35 questions in 20 minutes
  • Reasoning Ability: 35 questions in 20 minutes

Each of these tests has its separate timing, as mentioned above. It’s important to note that there will be a penalty for incorrect answers, with 1/4th of the marks assigned to each question deducted for each wrong response. There are no prescribed minimum qualifying marks for individual tests or for aggregate scores in the preliminary examination.

Main Examination

The main examination is the second stage and is also conducted online. It comprises objective tests for 200 marks and a descriptive test for 50 marks. The descriptive test is administered immediately after the conclusion of the objective test, and candidates are required to type their answers on the computer.

The main examination consists of the following sections:

  • Reasoning & Computer Aptitude: 40 questions for 50 marks in 50 minutes
  • Data Analysis & Interpretation: 30 questions for 50 marks in 45 minutes
  • General/ Economy/ Banking Awareness: 50 questions for 60 marks in 45 minutes
  • English Language: 35 questions for 40 marks in 40 minutes
  • English Language (Letter Writing & Essay): 2 questions for 50 marks in 30 minutes

Similar to the preliminary examination, each test in the main examination has its own timing and carries a penalty for incorrect answers—1/4th of the marks for each incorrect response. There are no specified minimum qualifying marks for individual tests or for the overall score in the main examination.

Psychometric Test

For Phase III, the bank may conduct a psychometric test aimed at personality profiling. This test will be administered to candidates who are shortlisted based on their performance in the previous phases. The findings from the psychometric test may be presented to the interview panel to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the candidates.

Final Selection

To secure final selection, candidates must qualify in both Phase II (main examination) and Phase III (psychometric test) separately. The marks obtained in the main examination, including both the objective and descriptive tests, will be combined with the marks obtained in Phase III to create the final merit list. It’s important to note that the marks obtained in the preliminary examination (Phase I) will not be considered when preparing the final merit list for selection.

This rigorous selection process ensures that the most deserving candidates are chosen to join the State Bank of India as Probationary Officers.
