Now a Lower division clerk(LDC) can get a promotion under 1 year in general. The time may vary. The first promotion is in the from of Upper/Assistant division clerk. Now you need to qualify a departmental exam for this that is called UDC (upper division clerk) exam. Farther you can go to become Division clerk and then the highest post.
