Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in India is a subcategory of people belonging to the Economy Based Un-Reserved Category having an annual family income less than ₹8 lakh (US,000) and who do not belong to any category such as SC/ST/OBC across India, nor to MBC in Tamil Nadu.

The benefit of reservation under EWS can be availed upon production of an Income and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority. The Income and Asset Certificate issued by the authorities in the prescribed format shall only be accepted as proof of candidate’s claim as belonging to EWS.
