• Admission to Ph.D. only.

CSIR UGC NET December 2026 Eligibility Details

Candidates who are interested in applying for the CSIR UGC NET examination should fulfil the required educational qualification and age limit.

CSIR UGC NET Educational Qualification

General/Unreserved/General-EWS Candidates:

– Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in a Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from a recognized university/institution.

OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender Candidates:

– Candidates must have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in a Master’s Degree or equivalent examination.

Candidates Pursuing a Master’s Degree:

Candidates who are pursuing their Master’s Degree or equivalent course, or have appeared for their final-year examination and whose results are awaited, may also apply provisionally.

Such candidates must complete their Master’s Degree with the required percentage of marks within two years from the date of the NET result.

Candidates qualifying for Ph.D. admission only must complete their Master’s Degree within one year from the date of the NET result with the required percentage of marks.

Age Limit for CSIR UGC NET December 2026

For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF):

• Maximum age: 30 years as on the first day of the month in which the examination concludes, i.e. December 2026.

• Relaxation of up to 5 years is provided to eligible OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Third Gender candidates and women applicants.

For Assistant Professor:

– There is no upper age limit.

For Admission to Ph.D.:

– There is no upper age limit.

CSIR UGC NET Application Fees, Fellowship Stipend & Selection Process

Application Fees

Candidates can pay the application fee through net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI.

Junior Research Fellowship Stipend

Candidates selected for the Junior Research Fellowship through CSIR-NET will receive:

• First two years: Rs. 37,000/- per month.

• Annual contingent grant: Rs. 20,000/-.

• Third and subsequent years: Rs. 42,000/- per month after upgradation to SRF (NET), subject to the applicable conditions.

The fellowship will be governed by the terms and conditions of CSIR, UGC or the relevant research scheme.

Selection Process

The examination is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) through Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. The examination determines eligibility for JRF, Assistant Professor and Ph.D. admission categories as applicable.
