The ADRE 3.0 update. In the past Assam Direct Recruitment Examination put out two large scale hiring which saw the filling up of many Grade-III and Grade-IV government positions and we are to see a third round which will open up a large set of those same grade positions across the state. What is ADRE 3.0?
ADRE as it is known is a State Level Recruitment Commission (SLRC) conducted which is a common recruitment which fills Grade-III and Grade-IV positions in various government departments in the State of Assam. Instead of each department which runs their own recruitment processes what the ADRE does is bring these vacancies together for a single, standardized written exam, which also makes is the largest and most watched competitive exam in the state.
The first instance of ADRE was a few years past, and for the second which is ADRE 2.0 we saw in 2024 which saw off 12,673 vacancies; we saw the issue out of appointment letters for that which took place on 9 and 10 January 2026. That we are over that phase in attention has turned to ADRE 3.0. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reports that the ADRE 3.0 notification will be put out only post the Assam Assembly Elections which are to happen in April May 2026 and also that the new cycle may see in a range of 10,000 to 15,000 more vacancies across Grade-III and Grade-IV posts.
The official ADRE 3.0 syllabus has not been released yet. What we have is based on the ADRE 2.0 syllabus which was put out on 15 July 2024 and the SLRC’s set exam framework which the commission has maintained the same throughout editions. Also it is a chance that ADRE 3.0 may bring in a two phase exam a preliminary round which is followed by the main exam which is why this page will be revised as soon as the SLRC puts out an official syllabus.

The Road Transport section is unique to this paper and focuses on traffic rules, vehicle regulations and road-safety knowledge. Question counts per subject are approximate and can shift slightly between editions, but the overall total of 150 stays fixed.
Higher Secondary (HSSLC) Exam Pattern
This paper applies to Grade-III posts that require an HSSLC (Class XII) qualification. It follows the same 3-hour, 150-question, 150-mark format as the Driver paper, with the same one-fourth negative marking rule.

General English and General Mathematics carry the highest weightage here at 35 questions each, so candidates preparing for HSSLC-level posts should prioritise these two subjects alongside General Knowledge to maximise their score.
Bachelor’s Degree (Graduation) Exam Pattern
This is the paper for Grade-III posts that require a Bachelor’s degree. It still has 150 questions in 3 hours, but the total marks come to 175 instead of 150, because the Reading Comprehension and English Language section carries 2 marks per question. A wrong answer in a 1-mark question deducts 0.25 marks, while a wrong answer in a 2-mark question deducts 0.50 marks.

This is the only ADRE paper where total marks exceed the number of questions, purely because of the 2-mark Reading Comprehension section. Since a wrong answer there costs double the usual penalty, candidates should attempt these 25 questions carefully rather than rushing through them.

This section reports on what is current in national and international affairs, what are the recent inventions and scientific breakthroughs, we also look at the world organizations’ doings, well known places in India and also put forth general awareness questions which specific to India and Assam. To build up this section it is best to follow daily news and to read an Assam focused general knowledge book. Social Studies.
Social Studies
In many cases we see questions from Physical and Economic Social Geography of our own and world’s geography, out of which Indian and in particular Assam’s is a large part. Also we get many on Ancient, Medieval and Modern Indian History, the Freedom Struggle, Assam’s history, culture and geography which in turn includes the History of the Indian Constitution and basic Civics. It is noted that the state based questions for Assam are very common which is why that section requires extra attention.

General Mathematics
Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
This section includes Number Series, Coding-Decoding, Analogies, Blood Relations, Direction Sense, Statement and Conclusion, Embedded Figures, Pattern Recognition, and Syllogism. It rewards consistent daily practice more than last-minute revision, since speed and accuracy both matter under exam-time pressure.
Will the ADRE 3.0 Exam Pattern Change?
During ADRE 2.0, the SLRC briefly proposed splitting the exam into two phases — a preliminary screening round followed by a main examination — but dropped the idea after widespread protests and reverted to the single-phase MCQ format that had originally been notified.
For ADRE 3.0, there is speculation that the government could introduce a two-phase format right from the start this time: an objective preliminary screening followed by a more detailed main exam. None of this has been confirmed through an official notification yet, so the safest approach is to prepare for the existing single-phase MCQ pattern while keeping an eye on official SLRC announcements as the election season winds down.
