JEE Main, JEE Advanced, NEET Exams Postponed: New Dates Announces by HRD Minister: Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced that the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET 2020) will now be held in September. As a consequence, JEE Advanced too stands postponed. The announcement was released based on a report submitted by a panel of experts. The decision was taken after considering the prevailing situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now, the JEE Main – entrance exam for admission to undergraduate level engineering courses will be held from September 1 to 6 and JEE Advanced will be held on September 27. NEET will now be held on September 13. This is the second time this year that the exams have been postponed. These were to be held in April and May, respectively.

The minister was compelled to rethink in conducting the entrance after communications received from agitating students and parents from the country and abroad. A few days ago, parents of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG 2020) candidates in the Middle East countries have filed a plea in Supreme Court demanding to postpone the medical entrance exam.

In a video message, the HRD Minister said, “I hope you will utilize this time to prepare well and hone your strong points further.” He also emphasized on “stress-free” exam preparations.

Amid COVID-19 outbreak, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Friday announced the decision to postpone the JEE and NEET exams this year.

“Keeping in mind the safety of students and to ensure quality education we have decided to postpone JEE and NEET examinations,” Pokhriyal tweeted.

JEE Main examination will be held between September 1 to 6, JEE advanced exam will be held on September 27 and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) examination will be held on September 13.

The announcement came during the Fit India webinar when Pokhriyal faced a barrage of questions regarding the dates for both exams.

Recently, parents of candidates in the Middle East countries, who are aspiring to appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG 2020), had filed a plea in Supreme Court demanding postponement of the exam.

A committee was set up by the HRD Ministry to review the Covid-19 situation in the country and to ascertain if conducting the exams would be safe or not.

“Looking at the prevailing circumstances and requests received from students and parents appearing for JEE and NEET examinations, a committee consisting of DG NTA and other experts has been advised to review the situation and submit its recommendations to HRD Ministry latest by tomorrow,” Pokhriyal had said on Thursday.

The decision is likely to impact over 25 lakh students. As many as 9 lakh candidates have registered to take the JEE Main and approximately 16 lakh for NEET.
