RFRI Jorhat Assam: Pioneering Forestry Development in the Northeast

Embark on a journey with Rain Forest Research Institute (RFRI) Jorhat Assam, a beacon of excellence since its inception in April 1988. Rooted in a commitment to bolster the forestry sector in the northeastern region, RFRI’s origins trace back to 1976 when a Regional Centre of Forest Research Institute, Dehra Dun, took root at Burnihat (Assam). This establishment aimed to disseminate knowledge on forestry matters through research, education, and extension, particularly focusing on supporting forestry research in the northeastern states.

Over the years, the Centre flourished, evolving into the Institute of Rain and Moist Deciduous Forest Research (IRMDER), now recognized as the Rain Forest Research Institute (RFRI). Today, RFRI stands as a reputable institution, dedicated to providing invaluable services in forestry resources and technology extension to all northeastern states, including Sikkim.
