Assam Cabinet Approves Changes In School Calendar: The school session in Assam will start in January and end in December, but from this year the government has decided to extend it to March like in other parts of the country and the next session will start from April.

The Assam cabinet today approved changes to the school calendar in view of the lockdown and its impact on education.

Currently, the academic year for SEBA schools is from January to December.

Sarma said the decision would be taken on the basis of the views and suggestions of the people of Assam. SEBA has already launched a portal where people can share their views till May 30.

According to Sarma, the transfer of the academic year will be prepared for academic losses due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Schools and colleges in the state are closed until further notice.

“We have asked the people to submit their suggestions for starting the academic year … It will be made up for the loss of the Cavid-19 lockdown … We will take a decision in the first week of June,” the minister told a news conference.

On May 23, Assam Education Minister Himanta Bishwa Sarma said the government was considering shifting the academic year from April 1 to March 31 for schools under the Board of Secondary Education Assam or SEBA.

The Assam Cabinet today approved the decision to revise the next annual academic calendar due to the prevalence of Kovid-19 and the fact that students are sitting at home. Assam Education Minister Himanta Bishwa Sarma today said that the academic session of schools has decided to amend it from April 1 to March 31 after consulting the Assam cabinet to compensate for the loss of academic days. Educational institutions across the state have been closed since March due to the epidemic.

This is the first time the session will comply with the academic calendar followed by other boards. Currently, the Assam government conducts academic sessions from January-December.

It is worth mentioning here that the epidemic situation continues to revise the academic calendar after stopping grinding all academic activities in the state. It was then said that the matter would be decided in consultation with all parties. Parents of the students were urged to submit their views to the SEBA Board, Assam website.
